Re: has anyone tried 3rd party inks but gone back to Sawgrass inks?

I've just tried them and disappointed with results. I'm hoping i can put the Sawgrass back in and flush through the system and everything will be back to normal. Am I being optimistic? I have the Richo SG3100DN.

What brand of inks did you try? Did you get an ICC profile with them and are you using it? I've never had any problems with CIE inks in my Ricoh SG3110DN machines.

I've tried the ink experts inks and I've set up the ICC and the settings as instructed but the prints are not the correct colour and nowhere near as vibrant, also it takes about 10 times longer to print a sheet on the required high quality settings which i don't mind waiting but I feel it will take its toll on the lifespan of my printer - printing 5 sheets is like printing 50.

Yeah that’s where you went wrong.
go to ink experts and get decent inks and support.

It was ink experts I tried (sorry I've corrected it now). Do you think the colours are as vibrant or do you just think they are vibrant enough for the cost savings? I don't print that much so I value getting good quality vibrant colours so I'd say Sawgrass inks suit me better.

In a Sawgrass printer always use Sawgrass inks. Nothing beats them.

Thanks and yes I've learnt this the hard way, just hope my printer will forgive me when I return to Sawgrass and we can go back to what we had.

it sounds like there is something wrong somewhere.

printing 5 sheets might take a little bit longer than the Sawgrass print manager does, but it should not be the equivalent of 50. Even if that is a slight exaggeration, it still should be closer :-)

I would suggest you screen shot all your settings and speak to Ink Experts just to be 100% certain that you have everything as it should.

The fact that the colours are out also would suggest to me that there might be a checkbox somewhere that is not selected.

I didn't feel I was exaggerating but I just timed it printing a busy-ish A4 and it took 3:38 mins so 5 times longer than with Power driver. The colours are not totally out I've attached a colour chart comparing results. But you can see the colours are not as vibrant and printing not as sharp even with the extra print time. I want a vibrant red like I'm used to but can't get one using their ICC, they come out pinky or dull compared to Sawgrass. If I use Power Driver with the InkExperts ink I get the right colour but it is banded. So the ink has the potential to produce the vibrant colour but somehow the ICC is 'stingey' with the ink and disappoints.
