I am obsessive about efficiency in production. I buy the fastest most reliable production machines I can afford. I have recently discovered lean production and the toyota production system while surfing YouTube. This discovery has helped me realise how niave I am at production efficiency and running an efficient business (and I thought I was quite good at it). Its definately worth having a look at if you manufacture anything or run a business.
Is anyone here already implementing lean producto philosophy?

Production speed is not only in the machines. It can be only as fast as your slowest link. In this case would be most likely human.

Is Lean not just what came later to be known as JIT?

Just in time is a production method which is designed to reduce production waste, which is one of the main principles of a lean system.
Paul It could be many things, how humans behave in a lean environment is crucial. It takes a bit of getting your head around. Paul Akers has a couple of channels on Youtube dealing with the subject (there are others but he seems to be the most prolific.)

Most small business owners practice lean production intuitively.
It is only when the scale of the business becomes too large for the owner to oversee that good houskeeping becomes a jargonised process.

Dont agree with you, for most its not intuitive, and its a bit more involved than good housekeeping. If you think its a load of b*****x thats fine too.
