Looking to move our Shopify store and WooCommerce has been highly recommended as a more flexible platform.

Do I need to install Wordpress and then WooCommerce is a plug-in?

Wordpress is free as is woocommerce.
If you have hosting it’s all built into a cPanel. One click install and off you go.

Get decent fast hosting, don't scrimp on this if you want a fast site. We had no end of problem cheaping out on this, and then moved to WPX.
Google Matthew Woodward Wordpress hosting test, and you'll find a detailed report testing different hosts speed.

Also, definitely install Wordfence free plugin to stop you getting hacked!

A friend of mine has a hosting business and has run my sites for around 12 years.
It’s www.ldhosts.co.uk I haven’t ever had an issue in the 12 years I have been using him and it’s all unlimited storage, bandwidth and databases etc.

If your interested drop me a pm I’ll send you his email you will get a better deal this way ;)

OK, installed wordpress and woocommerce from cpanel, hadn't realised they were built in :-)

Nothing coming up on the website I've installed to, do I need to do something else?

Install Wordfence plugin would be my first recommendation

In terms of any other plugins/themes, but very careful, as some stuff we bought from what we thought were reputable sites, included malware, which took a lot of sorting out.

Though in terms of theme/design, a theme builder like Divi, gets rid of the need for lots of other plugins to make you site look how you want.

Use Wordfence, but also the virus scanner in CPanel to check out any downloaded plugins before installing them.
