For all owners of a bn-20 have you ever printed vehicle magnetics from yours?
if so have you ever cut it using the cutter too?

Im thinking of grabbing one for this purpose and using an old blade to cut them out after printing.
There’s a lot of reasons I haven’t bought one but if this would work then I’m sold.

at present I cut magnetics using an old cutter and use vinyl for the details and logos. (It’s a pain in the bum)

many thanks
Paul.

Will a BN-20 allow you to just do the print (with reg marks from other software) then do the cut on a dedicated contour cutter using the pre-printed reg marks?

Not sure but a dedicated blade for magnetics would mean it could be done on one machine.
unsure if the bn20 could actually cut through it though as my graphtecs can’t.

but a cheap us cutter can.

A Roland VS can cut through it so I see no reason why a BN20 can't.

However.......

Firstly you need to make sure that magnetic material can feed through freely. Some Rolands have the drop curve made of a stainless steel while others are made of Ali meaning that the magnetic material will obviously stick to one and not the other. It appears to be a bit of a lottery as to which model you get.

Secondly, when I did them I found it was easiest to get the blade to make three passes instead of trying to go for all out pressure on the first pass. I also found that it was better to cut almost through it and pull the excess away by hand.

I used a 65 degree blade for this

Thanks I didn’t realise the bn20 came with both Ali and steel!
I suppose the only way to check is ask the company selling before purchase?

TBH, I think it is the luck of the draw...

It also might not apply as the exit tray is probably different to Versacams

I have always cut my magnet panels for vehicles by hand. It is so soft I don’t see the point in maybe ruining a blade. Just print and cut the vinyl then apply to the magnet.

I print & cut magnetic party invitations almost every day and blade wear is minimal. I've only recently replaced a blade I had in my machine for over 2 years. I'm assuming vehicle magnetic sheet may be thicker though and, as you say, why use a cutter at all when they can be cut so easily, and probably quicker, by hand?

I print direct to the magnetic sheet, are there any advantages to printing on vinyl and then applying?

Vehicle is A LOT thicker, but then, when I used to do it, I just priced a cheap blade from Ebay into the price, it was only an additional £2.50. It might be quicker (not sure as I have never tried it), but then its a darn sight easier to let the machine do the work so you cna do other things, plus if you need to cut a 2 meter sign, you need a 2.5 meter table if cutting by hand.

Blades are now pennies on eBay so I’m not bothered about the cost of a blade or two.
I really need to know if anyone has a bn20 and actually mange to print and cut the 0.8mm magnetic sheet.

I am already using vinyl but cut not printed and cutting the magnetic sheet using a us cutter to cut the sheet to size with the rounded edges.
If I can print direct to the magnet it would save a lot of time and effort if I can just set it and let it go remove and send out.
