Any ideas how it’s done?

Don't know for sure, but my guess would be that they are decals added under the glaze before firing.

I think I remember seeing those mugs available from BestSub or somewhere like that, they are already pre-printed with that message ready to sublimate. I think they also had Valentines and Christmas ones too.

Looking at it I would have guessed at some kind of inflated heat press blanket for the inner walls. Drop in inflate like a tyre to push the paper to the wall of the mug.
but a flat round press for the base?

Just water slide type digital decals during the manufacture stage or even after on standard mugs then fired at 600c or thereabouts.

Most sublimation mugs have no inner coating and the wall isn't as straight as outer area.

I once saw a video of an image being applied to plates in which a kind of balloon was lowered onto the surface of the plate to transfer the ink before the item was fired.
Perhaps the same is true for the mug above given that the corners are not printed.

That's done with a pad printer. The soft rubber picks up the ink from a plate engraved with the design and transfers it to the product. Useful for contoured products but I'm quite sure the mugs are done by applying decals before baking in the kiln.

You're probably right. I know nothing of decals.
I loved the video though. It had that kind of "satisfying to watch" aspect to it.

I've got a couple of mugs with printing inside the rim, but the designs are all generic and mass-market stuff, so not done in the UK.
