Re: HELP! Advice on heat temps & times for ovens

Hi Everyone

I am a little desperate for advice as I’m really not sure where I’m going wrong at the moment.
I use an oven (with a thermometer set up inside so I know the precise temp) and have been trying to print on a new batch of 10oz ceramic camping mugs. I use wraps and have the temp set to 170 degrees Celsius and they are in there for 11 minutes. I have used this setting for different mugs I’ve printed previously with success, but for some reason with these mugs the images are coming out almost blurry with an orangey tinge to them!! So frustrating and I’ve wasted a fair few mugs trying to correct it.
I was wondering if anyone has any advice for me before I blow through anymore stock. I have seen people on here say they sublimate mugs in an oven at 200 degrees-240 but when I’ve tried that in the past it’s been way too hot and has just browned the mugs.

Id really appreciate any insight anyone might have!

What oven are you using? I do batches at 200c for 20 mins now.

It’s a belling mk318 that I use and it has been fitted with a thermocouple, if I go any higher than 180-190 it tends to burn the paper, if yours do 20 minutes in maybe they’re just well undercooked maybe

Hmm... It seems this oven is different to the halogen oven I use, which has an in-built fan to distribute the hot air evenly. Maybe that's the main problem here.

Thanks so much for that, I’ve just read through the thread and it was massively helpful. I think it’s more of a timing issue than a temperature issue after reading that. I’ll take another run at it tomorrow!
