My trusty SG3110DN is at the end of its life and I've just bought an SG400 to replace it. In each case I use SG inks and Truepix paper, printing on standard mugs. I've set up VPM on my computer and am printing at 600dpi, but am getting really poor blacks (as the most obvious) compared to the SG3110DN using PowerDriver, nowhere near the same intensity. Anybody else encounter this when first using the SG400?

Ditch VPM and use icc profile instead. We get perfect blacks although use beaver mug paper.

Thanks for that. Do SG provide icc profiles for the SG400, all I can find is VPM? Or are you referring to a custom icc?

Yes, get a custom ICC profile done which would be best.

If you're using SG inks they can supply a profile for you.

Thanks, Justin. I checked with SG but they don't. What they did give me was a link for the superceded PowerDriver for the SG400, personally I find that much better than VPM although that may be due to long familiarity with using it on the older printer.

The quality issue persisted with PowerDriver, but it turns out to be the PC! I don't know what, but when I installed everything on a new windows setup on my other PC all is good.

Uhm, strange. Powerdriver simply selects different profiles so the profiles are available. I've done this with my printer (different model) so I know they have them, I'll see what I can find.
