I have a customer who wants tins like these.....

https://tinwaredirect.com/collections/s ... ed-lid-tin

They want a pattern printing all the way around. This company can supposedly do this but with a 3000 minimum it's beyond their requirements.

The only way I can think to do this would be a print and cut sticker/label. I'm hoping they get a few samples so we can see how it looks but wondered if anyone has done anything similar? maybe transparent media would be best?

Hi Justin

The reason it is such a big minimum is because if you want actual print they would need to print before fabrication.

When taking on a job like this for small runs the only option is print n cut stickers. In actual fact, take a look at some retail outlets and you will see that even large runs use this method as it is so cheap. If you get the right media then it will look and feel the nuts.

Personally, and very much depending on the design, I would not recommend a clear sticker. You would need air release media otherwise you will get bubbles, only problem is that air release is not as adhesive. Plus, digital white is not as permanent. White gloss all the way for this job in my humble opinion, although that is without seeing the design.

I can't remember if you have a print n cut yet, but if not drop me an email and I will sort you out with some samples and a price if you want.

Lastly and thinking outside the (tin!) box... I am thinking perhaps, CPM on an OKI white with some thermoshrinkable in an oven might work. That would require a lot of testing so might not be an option but its a thought.

Regards as always

Simon

Thanks Simon. yes, I'd thought labels would be the way to go, just wondered if there was a particular material to use or if it will just be trial and error. Air release would make life easier. Could be another string to the bow supplying these.

I have an HP 115 Latex Print & Cit so labels are no problem but thanks for the samples offer anyway :-)

I'm still to get the thermoshrinkystuff so need to get some in and have a play. Tins would need to be coated though.

I would go for a gloss permanent air release. I know Grafitype sell it. My only concern would be what the micron of the AR is. Ideally you want as thin as possible. Also don't forget that permanent adhesion can take 24 hours.

Not if you were using CPM as that does not require coating as it is laser. The durability would be excellent, but I am not sure how well it would transfer to the substrate in an oven, CPM is usually done using a heat press or mug press.
