Thankfully no member of staff was too close to the mug press at the time but our Adkins studio mug press blew this week shooting flames and smoke up from the element wrap.
Anyone else experience such a worrying problem?
Flames died down quickly. Pressure wasn't high. Only done about 25 mugs that day. Wrap wasn't very old.
Adkins - sent them a photo, sold us another element but no "gesture of goodwill" replacement which I would of hoped for.

Yes, it's happened to me twice. They were fairly old blankets and the fire extinguished pretty much as soon as I turned the power off but it's made me very aware of not leaving the presses unattended or having anything flammable anywhere near them. Ive used heater bands in a previous career and we used to have similar things happen, again only with well used ones though.
It's a bit rough if they're not supporting you when a fairly new blanket does it!

Thank you for response and how worrying this could happen. I will have to insure additional safety procedures are introduced. Is this a general issue with any bands do you think or just Adkins in your past experience?

Wow, that is worrying. If I was the manufacturer I'd at least be offering to collect your machine to check for faults.

I only have experience of Adkins heater bands from a mug press perspective but from the heater bands in other manufacturing areas it was never a surprise if we did have a band end it's life in that fashion!
Although initially alarming it was good to see that the blanket self extinguished once the power was switched off. It does make you wonder if the same would be true of a cheap imported ebay press?

We had a wrap do this recently too but was older than 6 months old and there was one spot that had worn away. I complained that it shouldn't wear so quickly but they only give you 6 months warranty regardless of usage so had to buy another.

I have had a couple burn up, neither were adkins, just what might happen when things get hot and old !
new blanket sorted it out straight away, just a bit , - ok - a LOT of smoke ! - and a bit of flame.
TOP TIP
keep your presses clear of flamable stuff !

Adkins redeemed themselves - phoned us up today and said they will replace the element that caused a BBQ in our studio.

Well done to Adkins for no doubt reading this and doing the right thing.

Result, that's good news.
