Customer insisted they wanted 13oz Balmoral Chain Mugs. Personally I don't like the china sublimation mugs but what the customer wants.......

Running print tests today, I've been tweaking my printer RIP for the last couple of days and a couple of things appeared 'off' so I tried a few different settings but print below is standard RIP profile with no adjustments made.

Below is a picture of the same image onto both mugs, ceramic and china. The loss of detail surprised me but it's the colours that are really bad. Now I know it's a different surface china/ceramic etc. and I'm cooking for same time 170/170, should I change settings for China? Could it have blurred through slight overcooking maybe?

When I do china mugs I use a silicon wrap and leave the time and temp the same, that's on the 10 oz ones.

Hi Justin. In my experience then the 130z bone china never go as clear as ceramic and in fact only last week we had a client complain. We try and stay away from 13oz although still offer for sale.

China always has a softer muted finish. Just have to warn the customer beforehand as will not get the crispness of ceramic.

Muted is a perfect word, especially for the grey design I'm working with, it just sucks the life out of it. I'd expected this yellow/blue design to go the same way but as you can see the yellow has become quite garish.

We print more bone China than ceramic and only trust orca coating to give good consistent results if that helps.
