Hey

So here is my "problem" I hope we can find some solution.
I bought this sublimation kit:

I get ICC profile from my seller and follow all instructions I get. So after over 40 prints... I am where I was with the first mug, I can't start with my business  I made a lot of waste...
For sure, a seller is telling me non-stop that printer is working just fine and we don't use ICC profile, or we don't use the right settings etc... I'm in the graphic design business for 10 years, so I know something.

What have I done so far?
  • Nozzle check
  • Head cleaning
  • 10 prints of HQ photo
&
  • All tests were used with the ICC profile + paper from the seller.

Test 1:
Middle - Hard press, ICC + settings as in manuals, temp: 180, time: 180
Result: Bad

Test 2:
Middle - Hard press, ICC + settings as in manuals + paper: glossy, temp: 180, time 180
Result: Bad

Test 3:
Middle press, ICC + settings as in manuals, temp: 160, time: 270
Result: All discolored

Test 4:
Middle press, ICC + settings as in manuals, temp: 160, time: 200
Result: All discolored

Test 5: I bought new mugs from another seller
Middle press, ICC + settings as in manuals, temp: 180, time: 185
Result: All discolored

Test 6: Mug from seller 2
Middle press, ICC + settings as in manuals, temp: 190, time: 150
Result: Bad transfer

Test 7:
Middle press, ICC + settings as in manuals, temp: 170, time: 150
Result: Bad transfer almost nothing to see

So after all, mugs aren't the problem.

I would really appreciate any help what to do. I want to send this printer back... :D

1. Are these cheap mugs from ebay?

2. I would have expected a better print than that last one you made at 170 degrees. Are you sure your press is actually heating up to the displayed temperature? Are you definitely on degrees C and not degrees F?

3. The old chestnut - Are you sure you are printing on the correct side of the paper?

1. I got one from a printer vendor and bought another from local print mug shop (the biggest in our country)

2. I will check it again  - Yes it is on degrees C.

3. Yes I'm. One side is white and another is purple. Tried both.

These are definitely sublimation mugs though, with a sublimation coating?

I only know UK suppliers. Just make sure the advertisement for the mugs definitely says 'sublimation blanks.' Do you know anyone in your country who could send you a few prints to try in your press with the mugs you have, or who could press a mug for you using your print?

Yes I know few guys. I can send them my design, they will print it out and send to me. And vice versa :)

I've been thinking about it...

Your problem is not the printer but the press you could try a silicon wrap between the mug and the press to even the pressure, you'll have to allow higher temp and time for this also allow more gap between the handle and the print.

So your advice is to try more pressure? What about time and temp?

For now without a silicone wrap...

The silicon wrap evens the pressure so no point in upping the pressure, the time and temp is a case of trial and error depending on your press,if you know someone with a mog press could you prepare one and get them to press it for you.
