Hi

i am just setting up a small hobby in sub and vinyl printing from home so will prob be on a bit asking for advice on here over the next few weeks/ months..

Can anyone tell me exactly what protective paper do i use for the sub printing...I have ordered Teflon sheets but then see people use silicon sheets also...do i need both or will teflon do, or are these the same thing

Also on the mug press do u not use any protective paper ?

we did a couple of mugs and found the one with protective paper on the colours were very faded (but this was a design off a disc so unsure of quality) and the one design we did that wasn't off a disc and we didn't use protective paper was great..

Any help on anything would be fab..

I will be doing sublimaton items and vinyl...Unsure yet whether to go down the sub t.shirts or just use the transfer paper as some items i will be doing will be dark clothing...

I used to run an embroidery business and we had no idea when we started that so now it's going back to basics here and re learning all over again.

I use Xpres A3 silicon sheets, just to stop any image transferring onto the press really. I don't use any protective paper when printing mugs, only time I've ever needed to do that was when I had the mug oven and images used to come through the paper back onto the mug wrap. Some folk use the teflon sheet instead as this can be used over and over but personally I prefer to know I'm not passing on any ghost images to future prints.

Sublimation is a learning curve but not as steep as embroidery (so I'm told!) The forum is here to help so please ask away

I always have to use a bit of greaseproof paper wrapped around my mugs, unfortunately the images always go through onto the wrap to be transfere to the next mug if i weren't using the paper. I have teflon sheets too for the heatpress which I use with some vinyls but only a few to be honest, I mainly use it with the subli items but again i use greaseproof to stop the ink going thru.

strange i`ve never used greaseproof paper when doing mugs and ive never had ink going through onto the wraps

Thank you for all your advice..If thats the case being not as steep a learning curve than embroidery i should be okay....The machine i had was a monster and a big learning curve but we got there ok...
