Hi guys

Hoping everyone is as busy as i am & sending out lots of orders!!

Currently sending out between 20 - 30 single mug boxes per day by royal mail 2nd class - £1.95

Problem is that in the last week I've had lots of customers saying that their mugs have been broken.

Currently weeding through the 'chancers' for free mugs (one for home & one for work 'chancers') by requesting picture of the said smashed mug then i send out one free of charge.

Does anyone do this differently as its denting my profits & royal mail seem do to 'booting' my orders off the wagon to their final destination without a regard for the 'FRAGILE' stickers plastered all over the postage box.

Can i complain? Been told that RM dont cover ceramics.

Anyone with some advice?

BMS - hi martin, my ricoh is much better than the B40W - sold the B40W & made a profit on what i bought it for - result!!

I use slightly larger boxes but wrap the mug in bubble wrap and pack the box out with scrap card. Only had one mug break in over a year of posting with Royal Mail. I also very rarely use 2nd class, normally everything goes 1st.

Are you using the polystyrene boxes or smashproof cardboard? I had a fair few break when i used polystyrene but smashproof seemed ok. That said, you can't beat an oversized box with great packing around it.

I use the polostyrene mailers from BMS never had one breakage even sent mugs to afganistan in mailers no other packaging and not one broke.

can you all post a link to where you get your mailing boxes - tried the polystyrene boxes but they too expensive - smashproof looks interesting though - please send a link so i can buy some asap.

I use these all the time & never had one smashed mug yet. Sent them as far as Australia & the USA & always ok.

Poly postal boxes work out at £0.32 +vat on 100 in a box and whenever we send out mugs we use the bubble protection that the mugs come supplied in, inserted in the poly box and then taped around the joint and put in the post. Never had a problem yet. I don't think 1st v 2nd class makes much difference apart from being in the postal system for a bit longer.

That said, you can't beat an oversized box with great packing around it.

Yes, but don't you want to minimise the total cost of packaging and posting?

What does a mug cost posted in a poly box compared to a smash proof box?

Personally yes but not at the expense of having smashed mugs You need to be charging enough to cover postage and packaging when you sell the mug.
