Hi, complete newbie here! I am looking into starting out in mug printing and have half decided that I will go for a Riccoh printer with refillable inks and a single mug press with a latte insert. Still looking and learning though so will be nosing around the forum for hints and ideas.

Hi srobbo71,

I was thinking along the same lines last week! But after speaking to a few people on the forum, and reading through a tonne of posts, I've decided to invest in an oven instead and use silicone wraps.

I have low start up costs, and a lot of my mugs will have full coverage, so I have been advised in the long run this route would be less costly (with mug presses you can't print up to the edges or handle, it can appear faded, and if you printing in high volumes the element can go on the mug press, so you would need to buy another one).

Although, for prints that aren't full coverage, I think it would be nice to have a mug press, for speed and ease of use. Something I'll probably invest in down the line.

Nice to hear from someone in the same boat as me brightday! I was originally looking at a double mug press costing £94 from a company called dye sublimation supplies but have read iffy reviews so have been put off, plus have been asking myself would it be a false economy...then was looking at more expensive single units but am trying to keep startup costs down. I saw some info re the oven and wraps method but not sure if it would be cost effective for just doing mugs. I would like to do latte mugs as well as standard 11oz and am struggling to decide which method to go ahead with.

Can I ask which type of oven you will be getting, a halogen or convection? I am so worried about getting the wrong kit to start off, my head is spinning with all of the different options.

Thanks for the welcome Justin :)
