Hi guys,

So, I'm looking to create a custom Gobo disc, that can be used in a gobo projector - to project a logo onto a wall etc.

The disc needs to be of diameter 26mm with a logo cut out on it. This could then also have the same design cut out behind it on a coloured transparency film - so that when the white light of the projector is shone through it, it projects the coloured logo onto the surface.

All I really need is someone with an A4 cutter, that is willing to help here to cut out a few designs for me onto an A4 sheet.

I'll need:

A design cut onto black material (so the light shines through the cut out part, but is blocked by the black part)
A sub-design cut onto turquoise transparency film (so this can be placed behind the first part, to colourise the design).

Please drop me a PM or email (rob@letspartyfireworks.co.uk) if you can help me... it might even be fun! ;)

Cheers,

Rob

Hi Rob, 26 mm will be hard for most cutters to get good detail, im not familliar with gobo, will this be like the old school overhead projectors? If thats the case you could get some OHP clear sheets and just print onto them?

Ah yes that was my fear... 26mm is very small! :) It can be like the old overhead projectors - which I could do quite easily, but then you get the logo on top of the white background..

What I was trying to do was to restrict the light shining through, so that it just shines in the shape of the design

A single ohp sheet will probably not be opaque but you could stack several sheets and achieve a black background, inverse of the text. Print the logo in red on just one layer (or 2 if needed to intensify the colour) and line up the lot, may be possible to use adhesive to keep layers aligned.

Good idea! I think I'll give that a try, thanks. Cheap solution too! :)

I looked into this ages ago, - do you have a ready made gobo projector? - the position of the actual slide is critical for perfect sharpness and the material really needs to be a hard flat metal so it will stay true & flat, - not going anywhere mear my cutter !
