Just bought a Ricoh SG3110 printer for some gentle sublimation for some mugs for personal use, however, there's not much choice of decent ink at reasonable costs and I really can't justify sawgrass stuff, although that seems to be the best.

Having researched it a bit more, I see that sawgrass authorise sublinova inks, so I take it these must be decent, however, only available for Epson printers.

I currently have an Epson WF-2630 which from what I've read uses the micropiezo print head, therefore, it does seem that this printer may be suitable for sublimation prints ?

I was considering flushing the heads out and trying some sublinova inks and see how it goes and using the 3110 for everyday office use,,,,, does this seem feasible ?

No, Ricoh needs thicker gel inks and will not work with those inks.

Work out the price per print, my advice, start with the proper supported setup and get comfortable with it.

Justin is right. If you want an easy life then 3110 with sawgrass inks is the way to go. We have multiple printers set up like this and never had one issue.

The sawgrass inks may be pricey, but they sure make up for it in quality and consistency. We wouldnt use anything else.

SUblinova is to thin for the ricoh it will cause drying of the head and banding problems, he gel ink is roughly 2.5 x as viscous. There are other alternatives.

Sawgrass have just put their prices up since the 1st March, so you can now buy a full set sublijet-r CMYK for £183.44 ex vat for a Ricoh GS3110DN.

Ok, this sounds a lot of money but they last a long time compared to ciss systems for example. you also get great colour management using sawgrass powerdriver 4 which is free to download and simple to use for various raw material such as ceramic, tshirts etc

The Ricoh self cleans which keeps the heads/nozzles from blocking so keep the machine turned on. it does not waste much ink either compared to other printers. It is easy and trouble free printing and i couldn't believe their prices at first but the setup works well with powerdrive v4

This is something I've just been discussing with someone and touched on briefly above, you get a lot of prints from these carts and even when they're showing low ink they last for a long time. If your mass producing into the 100,000's then maybe saving 15p/20p per print is essential but to get the support, ready made profiles etc. this is invaluable.

Sounds great. Again sorry to hijack... The life of these cartridges is it something to worry about?

I totally agree Justin.... saves on consumable blanks having the profiling right from the start and they last a long long time. the ink levels do not move lol
