Hello all.

For my mugs I am creating transparent templates (consisting of various font and vector styles & sizes) - each template has a number of individual layers.

Once i am happy with my template, i am right clicking and merging the layers into one before then dragging into my mug mockup image, saving then uploading as a product photo on my website (keeping the original file for printing onto the actual mugs)

Is there a quicker (or simpler) way to do this?

You are doing it very much the same as I do. I do have templates made for the size of the paper I use, as an example I have been using Trupix mug size paper which is 240mm X 118mm. So I have that size saved as a template.
I don't tend to flatten or merge my layers Incase I want to change something later on. So I always save a copy in png or jpg.
Another thing I sometimes do is use the same psd file for more than one design, I just turn off the layer I don't want to see.
I do this also for mockups. Use the same PSD mockup file and just change the smart object design.

Shift + Ctrl + Alt + E creates a new layer at the top of the stack, this is a flattened version of all visible layers. Very useful as you can keep your existing layer structure for future edits. The new layer can be dragged into another document if needed.

Thank you Wayupnorth, that is a good tip to know. I have used Photoshop for years but being self taught I always feel I have only scratched the surface

One thing that can catch you out is that the new layer is not updated when you change an underlying layer. Confusing if you forget and wonder why edits don't show.

I seem to be having some issues when dragging one transparent layer (in this case the merged layer with text and vector) into the mug template (contained in seperate file). It takes me a few attempts for it to successfully transfer over, not too sure what i am doing wrong! I am making sure that the merged layer is highlighted before i drag it over. Any suggestions? I open up the template and rename according to the job in hand. The layers are then created within this template copy and the whole thing saved for future use in a folder.

Technick if you are having a problem dragging. Just select all and then Copy and Paste into the mockup file.

That was driving me up the wall... I previously tried using CTRL A, CTRL X/C, CTRL P with no success - i've just had another shot at it and works perfectly
