Have a look around you local high street with many businesses closing there may be some stuff for free. Our local card shop closed and I got some stuff for the price of a curry.

As Quinsfan has said, slatwall and other fixtures are often chucked out when a store is refurbed, you would be amazed at what you can get

slatwall is not perfect.... the multi cube system from ikea is very versatile, and you can add slatwall to go with.
to use slatwall to its best you need a lot of bits so you can keep changing it, otherwise you are limited by the size and type of component you have ..... BUT - look out for shops closing eary jan and nmake an offer for second hand!
