I was idling 10 minutes away this afternoon - late lunch you understand ) and came across this web site

The images are quite striking, I'd love to see one close up in the flesh as it were (not enough to spend £26 plus postage though).

The 3D effect is by far the best I have seen - but then again I don't get out much. Anyone know what software is used to generate the images? I know 3D is down to using light and shade to give the impression of shape, form and depth - I knew all those years of photography would come in useful sooner or later. Thing is these look too good, especially the chocolate labrador. So they must be software enhanced. But what with? If it turns out they are created by some very carefully controlled lighting and a bit of photoshop I would be even more impressed.

These do look very good 'in the flesh' The ones I've seen don't really stand out 3D like this, these pics are particularly good They were featured on the apprentice a couple of weeks back, very popular.

TV - ah yes, thats what people do in their leisure time - so I am told ;o)

I don't suppose you they showed you which machine they were being printed on?

Going to stick my head out here and suggest they were printed on a Kornit or Brother DTG. They are the only machine I know of that can print the whole t-shirt. Maybe there are other machines out there but Ive not heard of them.
3D software, no idea, sorry. I think it only works as 3D when you are standing directly in front and its flat, no on someone. Nice idea though.

I'm not convinced that the images on the website are actual photos of the t-shirts. All the shirts have the same folds and creases, so I would guess they have used a PS mockup and that photos of the animals' faces have been added on top of the t-shirt image..........

I would agree with Skye and they're certainly not 3D images. The power of the image is in the fact the dogs are absolutely straight on looking at you and, in the mock-ups, the field of sharp focus is carefully restricted to the dogs noses/eyes and appears to go out of focus rapidly towards the image perimeters. Its the restricted depth that gives the impression of 3D. I think the effect would be far less impressive on the actual shirts because the shirts would not appear so out of focus to the eye.

They appear to be lit with a reasonably large softbox to upper right of camera, a large white reflector to front centre of camera and a kicker backlight to left of camera just giving a few highlights to things like whiskers.

I'm not convinced by the cute smiles so many of the pooches have, though.

These are two shirts we printed a couple of weeks ago using DTG. Not as large as the ones you referred to but the process is likely to be similar. If I spent some time creating a template for 'all over' printing, I guess we could do the same.
