OH DEAR!!! Two aspects...cost and copyright.

he's a busy boy - look at his other items for sale.

I'm quite sure that all of the items are "Genuine" I wonder if the person is a member on here

Not including postage we reckon a mug on eBay costs us 2.00 to list and sell including PayPal and eBay fees. Just out of interest how much do you lot think

Of course those costs don't include labour or wear and tear on equipment etc

he says his mugs are dishwasher safe but that doesn't mean a great deal. If he has got hold of some cheap mugs - 50p - 60p each, ink - cheap ciss = maybe 3 - 5p, cheap sub paper - no need for anything fancy for simple graphics maybe 2p per mug thats 55p - 67p each plus fees - no idea about Fleabay fees - 30p - 40p?? plus electric and equipment etc = say 10p,



= 95p - £1.17p each


then there are other overheads such as email and web presence which are hard to put a price on.


You can comfortably knock out 20 an hour with a couple of cheap Chinese mug presses

20 x £2.49 = £49.80

20 x 95p = £19
20 x £1.17 = £23.40

£49.80 - £19 to £23.40

= £30.80 to £26.40

-22% tax

= a potential earning of £24.02 to £20.59 per hour

Given that he has 631 sales since the end of January if he is making the same sort of margins on his other products, on the whole ebay will have been a nice little earner.

I am also assuming that his postage charge covers his costs and he doesn't live a hundred miles away from a post office.

I think most ebay sellers with scant concern for copyright either don't worry unduly about the consequences, treating being caught as an occupational hazard that is likely to end in a cease and desist letter rather than the court summons being the copyright holders immediate reaction or just don't even give copyright a second thought. They would also happily send their own grannies down the pits for half that hourly rate.

Yes I know these are all finger in the wind figures and could be beaten by people here who produce for the mass market, but for a single person knocking out cheap mugs from their spare bedroom at home a few evenings a week its achievable and beats sitting having your brains sucked out through your eyeballs watching "Get me out of the great British, Strictly pottery jungle factor" on the idiot lantern in the corner of the room.
