Hi all,
I am a newbie to sublimation and have just purchased a Sawgrass Virtuoso SG400 with Bypass Tray. I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a compatible ink and refillable cartridges available for this machine? I have tried looking online but can't seem to find anything and as I know nothing about the machine, thought I would ask 'the experts'!! I know there are compatible inks and cartridges for the Ricoh SG3110DN which is basically the same machine (just a few component changes - so I have been told) but Ive been told that the SG400 uses this new HD Gel ink (Sublijet HD Cartridges) and I have no clue what the difference is......If anyone could share shed some light it would be very much appreciated  TIA

I'm newbie as well, got the same machine. Have read a lot about Sawgrass and its technology and I personally think, that using refillable cartridges with Sawgrass would be like
fuelling your brand new diesel Mercedes with used cooking oil...

I do get that and understand completely! The only reason I asked is because you can get another ink made by the same manufacturer (apparently) that is compatible with the Ricoh printers with refillable carts so just wondered if they would be doing the same for this machine.....

As the Ricoh printers are essentially cheap 4 colour office printers, I am not sure the Merc analogy holds.
There are very good quality sublimation inks out there, including ones of better quality then Sawgrass. I know that InkTec have brought out a line of Sublinova aimed at large format printers using Ricoh print head technology, but I don't know if it's the same print head tech/type used in the small format stuff for the ink to also work in them.

I wouldn't argue with you. Just thought there is no replacement for gel inks, as all I could see was either solvent or water based solutions. I've found the one you've mentioned for big sawgrass printers.

I've never seen any successful tests using inks other than the SG ones in Ricoh machines unfortunately.

neither have I Justin, but InkTec's Sublinova for the big Ricoh based printers is a relatively new addition.
