I've only done about 1/2 dozen mugs so far and wondered what the consensus was on dunking mugs in water after pressing. I haven't done this yet as I'm concerned about developing hairline cracks.
So do you dunk?

I don't believe there is consensus on dunking mugs but another option to cool them quicker is to use a fan, personally I don't dunk them.

Thanks for the reply Daniel. I had s bit of movement on black lettering but I think it may be more to do with not taping the paper tightly enough rather than sublimation continuing after taking paper off.

If it's the inks still printing after paper removal you can tell by looking - the image crisp and sharp when first removed, and but soon after goes fuzzy.
The other thing to watch is getting the transfer paper off in one quick smooth action, as removing the paper can smudge/ghost the still printing ink too

I think one of the mugs may have marked when the paper split. I suppose it's just a case of more practice. Colour a turned out well nice solid blacks and no fading so that's a good thing. Now just a matter of taping paper more and swift paper removal.

Always dunk mine after visiting Martin at BMS and his demo of doing the dunking after pressing. Warm water and not had one crack yet....and no burnt fingers.

I just remove from the press whip paper off and leave to cool down naturally. I use heat proof gloves to hold the mug by the handle and just pull from the corner in one swift movement.

I haven't found the heat a problem as far as the handle is concerned, easy enough to hold and remove paper. Paper ripped in middle so I wonder if my technique needs improving?
The problem was with mugs that have black text and it may have been the paper wasn't taped on the mug tightly enough.
I'll have another go this week and watch closely to see where the problem is.
