I have a stall at my daughters summer fair. My public liability is in place, equipment PAT tested and have refurbished a old storage counter.
I am wondering if I will need a RCD on each appliance, I am taking a heat press, mug press and laptop, or just on the main socket. I have also signed up to iZettle and am hoping to take a couple of orders on the day.If any one has any advice or experience of these kind of events it would be greatly accepted.

Wonderful day at the Summer Fair, apart from the Rioch deciding to ERROR 28212 after an hour. Good old you tube and a Conde video issue resolved it, may have had to use some additional ink with the reset but was still able to operate. A lot of adults looking and taking leaflets but all sales were from the kids wanting individual coasters or keyrings with a message for the Mums. I had purchased a Bluetooth adapter for my laptop to receive photos from phones directly but found out that iPhones do not allow Bluetooth transfers, I don't have an iPhone and never will either, so that was a waste of money as that is all they had. All things taken into account it would be something I would do again.

Looks realy good. Now you are all set for car boot sales and craft fairs.

Hi, well done. Did you take much via the izettle thingy. I was thinking of going down this route, just looking for some feedback from someone who has it.

Whats the benefits of izettle over paypal here? I use paypal here and i really like it.

iPhone not supporting bluetooth transfer is a pain in the ass alright. Just a thought, but you said that you watched a video on youtube, so presumably had some sort of internet access there...perhaps something to try for another time, would be to set up a wi-fi access point, so they could connect to that and email the photos to you. A lot of people will probably be able to do this anyway cos they will have data packages, but some may not, so it might open it up to more customers.

In the end I got the people to email me the images. I downloaded them to my phone and then bluetoothed them to my laptop. This was just using up my data and some of the kids had pay as you go phones and didn't have much data or credit to send emails. So we also got them to iMessage my missus, she likes iPhones, who then emailed me. I know it was long winded but it was a solution of sorts.

I took nothing on the iZettle:frown:. As i said all my customers were kids spending their pocket money so all cash. What I will say is that I made my pitch money back with a small profit. Not enough to retire with but it paid for a take away for dinner:biggrin:
I did do a lot of looking around before choosing the iZettle and liked the idea of having a shop/catalouge on my phone. So if some buys a keyring and a mug I just press the two icons and presto.


I would do it again and might even do a pop up shop somewhere local soon to test the scene.

all the card processing things are much of a muchness, the paypal one, while giving you funds instantly doesn't have a screen for the customer to confirm the amount so you have to show them your phone as part of the process which feels less professional (but probably won't loose you the sale) I use the intuit one most which has a nice looking and feeling device with round edges, and a screen so there's instructions for the customer, so feels more professional but it doesn't have a backlight so a little hard to read in low light conditions, you get paid into your bank about 3 days after taking the payment, then I have the worldpay one also which doesn't look as professional as the intuit one being a black square box but it does have a back-light so easy to read.. in all cases if you're doing events regularly it's a great thing to have as people often have money in their pocket but don't want to spend it in case they see something they really want but you can offer them something that doesn't affect how much they can spend later.
