First attempt with an oven

Decided to try an oven as I liked the idea of printing closer to the handle and more than one mug at a time and here is the result at first attemp. Picture doesn't really do it justice as the photos came out very well with good strong colours pretty well matching screen display and no issue printing all the way to bottom of the mug. Image is approx 18mm from handle and I think I could go alot closer, I'm very satisfied with the result

Liking that a lot!!! What temp/ time did you use?

Set the oven to 200 - warmed the mugs for a couple minutes and removed. Oven continued to warm for further 5 or 6 minutes, I had put a cheap oven thermometer in and that was showing 175 ish, put the mugs back in and set time for 12 minutes.
The thermometer showed 200 ish at peak so I am assuming the oven and thermometer are as accurate (or not) as each other.
I printed 2 mugs at once and I suspect 10 minutes would have done assuming oven had reached full temperature. I was prepared for failures and was pleasantly surprised when both mugs with different designs and coverage came out perfectly with strong colours and black blacks.
When you consider the cost of a mug press and various heated blankets and cost of replacement blankets I feel that a cheap halogen oven and the cheaper green wraps can be a viable alternative although a press is more convenient for the odd single mug and you are less likely to burn your fingers:)

where did you get the wraps on ebay, found some that say

These are NOT suitable for a halogen type oven. Use in halogen oven will cause the item to fail (tear).

Is that because the halogen heat element is too close to where the mugs sit, whereas in a more conventional oven/vacuum oven the element is further away?

no idea, just had a look to see about them, as i want to give them a try, and found 2 things - i cannot find that price for 3 and could find that warning on the ones i did look at

They are quite pants no matter what you use them in 3d machines got heat elements close to mugs too. I found them good for only few uses. after some time they start to snap or split. But they are so cheap so i put them in the price of my mugs. I buy them from my Chinese supplier for £1.80 each. shipping is a killer but if you order more then this is a price that nobody can match.

yes these are the standard 10oz Duraglaze coated mug from Listawood

I didn't notice anything about not using the wraps in a halogen oven, it does circulate the air if that makes a difference mine came from here http://www.coopersofstortford.co.uk/coo ... dst08219i/ as for durability its early days yet and I'm never likely to be in a high production scenario.

Mrs Maggot I'll see if I can sort the paperwork for the wraps with the address and post it here. To be honest I didn't take too much notice of the supplier to the extent I didn't realise they were coming from China:) I'm not an experienced Ebay user to say the least
