Is there any reason why I can't get my cutter to cut the mug templates out for me?

Let's say I want to insert 12 mug images into a page in CorelDraw/Illustrator, add registration marks and get the cutter to cut out or perforate each mug template for me.

I tried setting up a document in CD to do this, adding snap to but can't get it to snap the images properly to the template.

All seems possible in theory :-)

You can but why ;-)

If you are still looking at the volume you have been talking about previously then I would consider a print and cut machine that is converted to dye sub inks. Not sure if a Roland can be converted but I know at least one make of "PnC" can as LTS have it.

With my Roland I can set up a kiss cut and a perforated cut on one file/job (ie. it can kiss cut a circular sticker and then cut a perforated square. All I have to do is pull apart and pack :-)). So presumably you can do it with others.

Just something that interested me.

Yes, I could use something like this http://www.xpres.co.uk/p-8532-mimaki-tp ... chine.aspx

I'm more interested in how the file would be generated using the template.

That will be cheap to run and very fast with double colours ;-)

Aha, not sure on that part, sorry mate.
