Re: Photoshop cs5 version 8.0

Post by Mathew »

Hi
ive just installed photoshop, and started to have a play to make a mug template, i can make one by going to file, new and typing the diamensions i want, but when i want to add a picture in, it opens up in another window, i can't seem to get the grasp of it, I've seen on some youtube videos where people drag and drop, ive tried that and it just seems to open it into another layer.

any help offered for a total newbie.
thanks

Layers is what we use in Photoshop. Each part of your design will consist of a layer, a couple of photographs, a background, some text etc. Drag each new picture into the template. Once the design is finished save all design as a .psd file preserving all those layers so you can go back end edit them if necessary. Once saved, I flatten the design and save as a .tff file and use that for printing.

Your template should be typically 300ppi 19.5cm x 8cm roughly.

You canndrag and drop but you need to have correct tool selected. Hit "v" on keyboard and thenndrag from one window to another. Or...
if you have your template open go to file>place... This will open another image within your mug template

The picture you dragged in should be the same resolution as your template. Then click on the layer you want to edit in the Layers Window, then go to Edit/ Transform/ Scale. You might find a Photoshop course in your local college useful.

Just curious why people use something like Photoshop over a vector drawing package like Corel Draw or Illustrator. If everything is in bitmap won't it become less sharp when printed especially smaller text or fine lines and have larger file size?

Maybe because most people deal with raster graphic and not a vector graphic.

we use Photoshop, as all our design/artwork starts off as paintings on paper or fabric, which are then scanned in and retouched/recoloured.
