Hi All, can anyone help me with a printing problem on umbrella's. I'm realitively new to dye sub so I'm still learning the tricks. I've got an issue with shadow's when printing into umbrella's. I'm using all geniune inks, paper etc and the umbrella's are good quality. I'm printing at 190c for 40 sec's but when I remove the paper, i've got a shadow around the print. I've tried many things to rectify it including clamping the panel to the bed and taping the paper to the umbrella to minimise movement but nothing has worked.

Has anyone had any success with this and of so, how did yo manage it?

It sounds like the paper is moving when you lift the platen. Is the lift action nice and steady or a bit jerky? Maybe put a sheet over the top to hold it down when you lift but if you've tried taping it I doubt it's that.

Sorry forgot that, we've tried a sheet of teflon over it. I even had a second person hold the teflon down down when we lifted the press.

I used to have this with Hi Vis, but found that using a heavier weight paper solved the issue.

As that paper supplier dried up I switched to the Xpres cheap stuff and find I get very good results by reducing the temperature by 10 degrees.

Both good points from Justin and Simon. I'd also add, whip that paper off quickly as you like. Super fast.

And make sure if you're using teflon that you haven't had ink migrate onto it thus marking every subsequent panel...

ta, what temp would you suggest? I tend to do everything at 190.

Different set ups require different settings....

I would start with 180 degrees and go from there. You have a "broken" umbrella so you have plenty of space to fine tune it

Also, make sure whatever you are using to get the perfect time and temp has a nice block of black as this is the most difficult colour to get spot on.
