I bought my big Epson 9600 large format off eBay for the princely sum of £225. It is about the same size as a desktop printer EXCEPT for the extra carriage length of course. The print heads, number of nozzles, print quality and print speed are not radically different from a regular small format printer. As a qualified engineer, I'd really struggle to see how a patent can apply to something that is virtually identical JUST because it is smaller?

Whilst I bought my large format printer cheaper, if you guys can get hold of one expect to pay around £300 to £400 secondhand. If you have the room you'll have a rock solid reliable printer that will literally last forever. If you are doing a lot of printing, I certainly wouldn't keep putting money into the pocket of one particular supplier and their massively overpriced offerings. Large format ink doesn't clog either, so you'll lose those hassles in the process too..

As dtg gets more popular, I do believe that it will eventually make sublimation garments less commercially viable. Who wants polyester when you can have cotton? I have had some of the Vapor garments with its highly hyped 'breathable fabric' for over a year now, and whilst ok, they are cold to put on first thing in the morning and the 'bobbling' on the fabric after a few washes really doesn't look good. That leaves mugs as the other primary seller for sublimation and if someone comes up with an alternative print method, then what will be the market for small format sublimation ink then? Perhaps someone is 'making hay whilst the sun shines', as nothing lasts forever in the business world.
