I've been using an Epson for well over 2 years now & never had one single blockage.

an Epson with an ink flow or blockage problem which is frustrating but fixable would be preferable to a Ricoh which doesn't power on anymore...

Both are fixable when bought through the authorised distributor network.

Fixable or swapable? As i dont think anybody said theyr was fixed.

Neither have all Epson's been fixed - you had AdamB and PurpleDragon saying there's weren't fixed, but replaced. It's wrong to say Epson's are always fixable as they aren't.

Yup, but equally misleading to say that the Ricoh's are faultless

Agreed Martin - and also let's not forget the importance of going to an authorised supplier for your set-up if you wish to have the support. I'll post a link below to the 'major' problem I had recently that was sorted by Sawgrass due to having a supported system.

Just to ensure quotes don't get mis-attributed, I haven't said this.

I do however standby the assertion that the closed cartridge systems used on Ricoh's and rolling out on some Epson's are much more trouble free that previous ink systems.

I have to agree with that also Martin. When I was chatting to Sawgrass about my problem he did explain that there were so many (how shall we say it) eventualities/circumstances when 'things' could cause a problem to a ciss set-up that were taken away with the closed cartridge system.

But, like 'everyone' agrees, nothing is trouble free after all we're human and have to take the 'human error' into account, never mind a problem with a machine created by a human

During your conversations with Sawgrass Adam, did you at any stage mention that it might have been nice to know all of the 'potential' issues that can arise with CIS systems etc? It strikes me that the general consensus now is CIS installs are likely to be problematic. How much time/ink have we wasted over the years with head cleans, air blockages and so on. Now we're being sold a far superior system, about time eh?

I used CIS for many years with varying issues. Some worked perfectly whilst others went in the bin, all supported systems. As soon as I switched to refil carts problems disappeared. Tests in half a dozen different printers confirmed refil carts were far superior and less likely to be quite so problematic. Why on earth couldn't Sawgrass have come to this conclusion much sooner and looked at the different directions many members here seem to be successful in.

For balance, I've tried 2 different Ricohs and both failed, that said, I will persevere and intend to look again at the latest models
