I agree, although it is the usual tactic of politicians more than suppliers :)

I wonder how many people have been asked for plastic mugs by customers? I've been asked perhaps once or twice and that's from customers wanting just one mug for their child.

I would have thought that, given they're made from "plastic" and that they don't need coating, the blanks should cost less than half that of ceramic mugs. But I bet they don't.

It may be cynical of me but mugs that "don't break" means less returning customers. You're going to need to sell them at a much higher price, or buy them in at a much cheaper price, yet people will expect you to sell them at half the price because they will seem "cheaper" by virtue of being "plastic".

I just wonder if there's a demand for selling an expensive product inexpensively that's cumbersome to make, sees no returning customers, requires expensive "inserts" and, due to its lack of weight and plastic appearance, no doubt feels a lot cheaper than ceramic mugs.

That's why I say that I can see it being an addition to existing products, but I don't see it replacing ceramic mugs any time soon.

I've been asked once in 2 years. That was for a care home. Not something we are ever likely to stock.

I don't have this to hand, but will post back as soon as I have some information.

What sizes do you have prices for? My supplier isn't the same as the one you pointed to, so likewise it would be good to compare. If you'd prefer to pm details then that's fine.

Getting back to the sublimation slate:

The following sizes have been enquired about above and via email and the prices of them are as follows. As I have an order ongoing with a supplier that also does the sublimation slate then I can add these to my order, bring them into the UK with my consignment and then forward to you once they have arrived (ETA mid/end February). The 15cm x 20xm rectangular slate will brought in to look at and these should be on general sale from mid/ end February, but if anyone would like to get some different ones in without paying a huge amount for shipping (or minimum order value) then have a look at the link from the start of this thread and let me know (either here or by pm).

Any orders will need to be paid for immediately (before Jan 4th to save the increase in VAT) and confirmed over the weekend so they can be added to our existing order without delaying despatch (many factories in China will close from mid January for around a month for Chinese New Year).

30cm Round (Big Circle): There are 9 to a pack, so orders need to be in multiples of 9 and these are £5.90 +vat each (£53.10 +vat on a pack of 9). These weigh in at an estimated 22kg for a pack of 9!

25cm x 40cm Rectangular Clock: There are 7 to a pack, so orders need to be in multiples of 7 and these are £7.45 +vat each (£52.15 +vat on a pack of 7). These weigh in at an estimated 21kg for a pack of 7!

Ouch, they weigh a lot!

I'd love to be an early adopter on these but most of my custom is online and postage costs would just kill the product - particularly with the increase in postage on the horizon. Each one weighing over 2Kg would cost almost £10 to send Recorded 1st Class and if anyone wanted one quickly, special delivery would cost almost £23 - just for one! :cripes!:

Wouldn't it be cheaper to use one of the couriers ?

Not much cheaper. I currently use DHL for £6.99+VAT (which will be £8.39 including VAT in January) - and you can bet your life that courier prices will go up as soon as Royal Mail's ones do in April.

I've seen some customers ordering items from my website who baulk when they see Royal Mail costs for a single mug (less than £3). Postage is already way too high to be sustainable for small orders.

Those of us who sell individual items are going to find the next postage price hike crippling.
