concluded that 16 minutes at 190c (using Sawgrass ink) mugs were AMAZING!!!!
Did you have "both" ovens turned on?

The times you have suggest you only had the top oven on. When you pressed the oven button did you press it twice so that both icons appear on the screen?

16-18 minutes full coverage should be for 12 mugs.

If that was the case, wouldn't you get a shady print? if I forget to turn both on then the print on the bottom is normally much more faded.

I suspect you are correct, it is just that 190 degrees for 16 minutes for 2 mugs using Sawgrass ink seems way over the top, if I did that in my old 3D oven I am pretty sure they would burn.

in my head I was thinking that they put another 2 in and continued to do the 12 for 16 mins which would be about right?
