Do a manual clean, google is your friend for cleaning videos if unsure, run through cleaning cycles then run a few of those test prints and then do a head test print, sometimes after just cleaning cycles the test can look worse than of its done some proper work. Try another media if unsure on your current one. Did you get a head test print before you bought it? Always sensible to do that. Buying used can be fine you just need to buy the right things that's all but a proper Roland engineer visit would be a costly exercise but might save you wasting money on something that's had its day, decide after a few trials though. Think you get a discount on any parts needed if you also take out a warranty after so enquire on That too if feeling flush

You need to keep the printer working. Solvent machines dont like to be sat around doing nothing. All you will do is transfer ink from the carts to the waste ink bottle.

Fair point well made by Froggy, it's not cheap doing nothing with them. At the least you should always leave it plugged in and switched on at the mains so it can do it's regular cleaning cycles. If you have a simple file of sorts and some cheap vinyl then run some stickers off weekly using colours that will fire all the heads to keep it ticking over. If you aren't getting enough use from it you might be better to move it on as it's an otherwise expensive ink consuming ornament.
