Fantastic thread - Thanks for starting it, I have learned a lot already.

I really want to get into Coasters and even though my 'Coaster Machine' is still waiting for a part I am not sure what I wanted to produce with it will cut the Mustard - well, not after seeing those Glass ones.

I am sure somebody will pay 50% of what they pay for a Mug for a great quality Glass Coaster.. I'm off to visit the link posted above.

People will in fact pay more than 50% of the cost of a mug for a glass coaster ... one of our Edinburgh stockists sells them at £9.95! which is a little above our RRP.

He only gets away with it due to his posh accent, try that in Glasgae (GG ducks for cover).

I imagine using the glass coasters with a clam shell press instead of a swing away will cause a lot of colour variation and broken glass coasters yes?

I dont see why there would be any variation if using a Clam Press, just make at least 4 at a time - place 2x at the back of the heat plate (nearest the hinge) and two at the front - nice even pressure all over ! yes, maybe if you placed all of your coasters at the front by the nature of this type of this type of press there would be a problem. Simple Physics.

Having used photo blocks in an old clam press (before the swing press came in) the edges came in for a wee bit of chipping due to the nature of the blocks and the pressure needed. I would've imagined it would've been the same if not worse with the relative thinness of the glass.

So would a silicon rubber mat be a good idea? Does that help? I tentatively think it might make a difference. I am likely wrong however

To revive and old thread, I just tried pressing some of the glass coasters from TTP. Excellent results! The colours are a touch lighter and duller than the tiles i have done but still look great. On my Stahls clamshell I didn't have a problem with pressure, but it has a rubber bottom platen so that would help I guess. Pressed two at a time. I will try 4 soon but don't anticipate any probs. I think they can be pretty high end and am going to try them at the gallery I got my framed tiles into. It's always good to have a cheaper option for those who like the work but don't want to fork out for the pricier option.
I'm going to try some unisub cork backed ones next as I have some nice simple patterns that would look cool. The marrimekki (finnish design company) coasters on the John Lewis site look very nice and crisp. I'm aiming to get that sort of crispness. I would like to find some without rounded corners but don't hold out much hope.
