Smash Proof Boxes, Really???
Re: Smash Proof Boxes, Really???
I show visiting customers these boxes, I put a mug in a box reserved for the purpose of demonstration so it has had lots of impact tests. I then take them outside, throw the box about 10 feet or so into the air with it landing on concrete. I do this 2 or 3 times for each demonstration (so this one box has been impacted quite a few times) and never had a single breakage.............oh and for the demo I don't put the mug in bubble wrap though I do for posting just for a bit more protection.

Re: Smash Proof Boxes, Really???
thanks everyone for all the info
it prob was a bad mug weakened somehow, i did put the mug in as instructed standing up, and as it was 11oz it did fill the box, but as we know and has being mentioned post marked fragile is not seeing as fragile so i think the secret for me is not to use fragile tape no more... id like to think it was just unlucky as i do like the ease and the added piece of mind when packaging mugs for delivery there something about the box that makes you feel everything is going to be ok ha ha
i have gone with cera smashproof boxes now, they seemed good plus i got some bubble wrap bags for mugs so i will just see how they go with a smashproof box and bubble wrap id rather spend that little bit more to insure they do get there safely and the bubble wrap bags saves alot of time in cutting bubble wrap up and taping

Re: Smash Proof Boxes, Really???
I'm looking for quicker option to the poly box/ plastic mailer/ fragile tape option so thanks for the cera option. I think the only hassle is assembling the boxes and getting paper cutted!
The thing with Royal Mail is that packets are sorted on a metal frame that sits waist high with postal sacks hanging from them. When the postie stretches over to toss the packet into the sack it bounces off the metal frame, that's when accidents happen. But putting your mug into a soft poly box makes an excellent football....just wait until the World Cup season starts!

How did you get on with the cera boxes? According to the product picture, the mug sits in a different position compared to the subli smash proof boxes.Designandgift;80383 wrote: i have gone with cera smashproof boxes now, they seemed good plus i got some bubble wrap bags for mugs so i will just see how they go with a smashproof box and bubble wrap

Re: Smash Proof Boxes, Really???
Hi. Not sure if this has been mentioned before, but these cardboard smash proof boxes are excellent with or without bubble wrap around mug.

We use them for our online gift shop (www.dexterdoodle.co.uk) and the BMS European mugs we use come with bubble wrap around each mug so after sublimation we put the bubble wrap back on and insert into smash proof box before sealing (either with tape or ideally poly bag) and posting.

Re: Smash Proof Boxes, Really???
The Xpres mug boxes are the largest I have found (I use 11oz mugs). The mugs sit in there quite well, but I still got breakages using them....but I may try those cera bubble bags with them and give them another go. I currently get very few breakages but the packing is labour intensive. I use 6x6x6 boxes and wrap the mug in bubble wrap.

Re: Smash Proof Boxes, Really???
I've bought these boxes several times and found they were the best of the bunch but would say my average for customers coming back about breakage is 10/100sublimetals_nicci;80376 wrote:Hi D&G Sorry to hear about your bad experience:frown:. I can only go on my experience of selling these Smash proof boxes for over 5 years now (I supply Subli.co.uk and also sell them myself) and what my customer feedback has been. We have sold over 200,000 of these boxes and when I was guaranteeing them when selling with our mugs, I only paid out once in 3 years. We sold to some of the big players and plenty of smaller customers who bought 1000's over the years - one of our big customers reckoned the breakage rate was less than 1 in 1000, so I think you were just unlucky and of course it could always be a dodgy mug to blame as much as the box. The big customer who ordered 10,000 at a time never used to add bubble wrap either. You must remember to make sure the mug is standing up in these boxes (as if it has coffee in as well) don't lay the mug down then you shouldn't need bubble wrap, saving time when packing - the advantage over polystyrene packaging is the space saving storage of them and that they double up as a gift box for your customer to give the mug in rather than just as a postage box (which is why we had them made in white). But it is horses for courses as usual, that great thing is to have choice!

Only this morning a had someone complain.
They always say the mug had was not packed with any protection as a answer to it arriving broken.

Re: Smash Proof Boxes, Really???
I get customers saying it wasn't packed properly when broken and then another customer says its well packed when it arrives in one piece even though both packed the same way. I have just started using bigger brown boxes and large bubble wrap hopefully this will sort problem

Re: Smash Proof Boxes, Really???
I use bubble wrap bags (free when you order mugs from BMS) along with their polystyrene boxes and I can say in the many years I have been doing mugs only 1 or 2 have arrived smashed on arrival.
