i understand i wont get the support from sawgrass, but would they do the job till my budget is bigger?

You need to understand that Sawgrass hold a patent for the use of sublimation ink in a small format printer. You need to budget to spend more and buy a supported setup. You'll then get support from both the supplier and the forum.

so am i breaking the law by buying them? or is it the seller whos breaking the law? sorry for all the questions,

im not really bothered about the support from sawgrass, i understand that going the cheap option may come back to sting me and if out goes wrong im on my own, is a supported set up really a necessity?

Your not going to get a supported printer for the tiny budget you have - either up the budget or pop along to ebay and buy someone else's problems.

i know, i understand that, what im asking is a supported printer really a necessity? i mean im sure not everyone who does sublimation use a supported printer, what im asking is if i buy just an epson or ricoh printer thats not supported by sawgrass, buy inks from a third party, and get an icc made up for the printer and inks ive got, will it do the job? i understand i wont get the support if out goes wrong, but im just starting up, in the future i will upgrade to a supported set up

If you go third party you're on your own I'm afraid, but we can't advise you either way. All I can say is you will need support along the way and if you vacant to make any money from this venture then you need to speculate to accumulate

what if i buy a supported printer but not from sawgrass, then buy the inks from sawgrass, will i be supported then? as i will probably be able to source a ricoh cheaper elsewhere than the sawgrass site.

Sawgrass are not the supplier, you need to go to one of the companies you'll find on our supplier list in General Dye Sub section (sticky at the top) If you buy a package of printer and inks they'll be little difference in price of the printer itself. By using sublimation inks in the Ricoh you invalidate the warranty, your supplier and ultimately Sawgrass will honour the warranty instead.
