I think a good example of what is being said is if I look back on my rallying days.
In the mid 1980's I drove an Opel Manta 400 which was brand new but, if it broke down we had to fix it ourselves. We couldn't take it back to the local dealer for the simple reason the warranty didn't cover what I was using the car for.

Well, I cannot see how it is illegal to discuss it anymore than discussing any other illegal activity if you are not promoting it or pointing people to where they can get it.
But let us be brutally honest here, if we could get toner cartridges, ink cartridges, or infact any consumables cheaper with almost the same end results then we would all like to save our money wouldnt we?
I would prefer to buy original consumables if they cost not a lot more than aftermarket products - but sadly this is often not the case.
For example Pitney Bowes sell their franking machine ink cartridges at almost £60 each with a life of 800 impressions. You can buy over 10 non-oem cartridges for the same cost. So it is not hard to see why people buy elsewhere.

This and copyright has always been a fine line, when do we cross, all I know its a messy business and hard to know how far to go. I try to urge caution, as it one thing talking about this in the privacy of your four wall, but always dangerous on a open forum. You do not know who is reading your post and construing it the way that suits them. Copyright has a way of coming back and biting us on the arse when we don't think we are doing wrong, and I think this subject can do the same. So from the point of those running this forum they have to err on this subject and play the game.

The thing is if we discuss it on here we are promoting it. Just ask yourself if it wasn't for the discussion on using a Brother printer in the forum would you be using one?

A few years ago Epson closed a big third party ink producer/supplier down in Germany when checked the formulation of their inks so, not only Sawgrass who protect themselves.
I would prefer to buy original consumables if they cost not a lot more than aftermarket products - but sadly this is often not the case.
If you have a patent to protect something it usually means yo can create a monopoly for youself & dictate the price which is just what we would do in a similar situation.
For example Pitney Bowes sell their franking machine ink cartridges at almost £60 each with a life of 800 impressions. You can buy over 10 non-oem cartridges for the same cost. So it is not hard to see why people buy elsewhere.
Have you checked to see if they have a patent to stop others making copies?

again fair comments so do we now have justin saying sorry we dont discuss copyright issues here? as paul mentioned earlier how many people on here use illegal software photo shop etc so do we need a hot line to adobe to check serial numbers before answering questions?
how many on here work from the back room of their house not paying tax or nat insurance do we know check these details before answering questions where does it end? it just seems its started and stopped at 1 item . Personally i would think people as business people would want the best results i have various printers if i use one for just printing job sheets then the cheapest ink i can use is what id go for but in my canon wide format printer im sure i could get ink half the price as compatables but i wouldnt want to compramise my machine or print quality so really its self policing

blimy thats a head messer ! good point though paul let me retort with this is it illegal to use non genuine inks or just illegal to produce non genuine inks to bring the drug example back its not illegal to sell a dope pipe but it is illegal to use it!

As Sir Paul McCartney once said after a drugs bust 'we planted a few seeds & they came up illegal'
