why oh why did you say that - now watching all the soundbite interviews on You Tube - no sign of the programme.
Here it was hosted by a man called Bill Cullen, who I never really liked but - I did have half a mid to go for an interview - not that I thought I might win but to prove to myself I had the bottle to try and do it.
Then it got axed - apparently because "of a lack of talent applying" and when you see the interviews it's not hard to see why :-)

I enjoyed this, and a previous one a couple of years back.
I find it amusing that you think the contestants are a bunch of muppets.... I ask you how much waste you have produced to become as expert as you are? - and learning under pressure does make it a lot harder! Add an explosive mismatch of egos and it does make great TV.
The BBC clearly has awesome influence, No-Way can anyone else walk about with an ice-cream tray of stuff just selling on street or in shopping arcades, and if I was faced with a warehouse full of blanks, and unknown product or market, how good would I be at guestimating what stock to purchase at what level? - and i have been doing this 22 years........

the contestants clearly HAVE business skills otherwise they wouldnt make the cut.......that said, how many times have we seen the apprentices make the same mistake, episode after episode, series after series - its not like its a new show and they are stepping into the unknown..

I also think that a good PM or leader should be able to assess his or her surroundings and be able to do a little more that guestimate in any task - as they should have enough about them to find out who they should speak to about this or that etc etc..... In this task, I would have split my team, and a couple of people would have been tasked with research for starters..... IMHO....

I have no doubt they have some business skills, but the show isnt about entirely business skills. Its about personalities and entertainment. How many times have we seen them all make mistakes, screw ups and then just bluff their way out of it. Its not about business because the show is about who can throw each under the bus first (which they always do, every episode, every series).

It's more about ego, lies and deception. All things that make modern business managers what they are today. The show doesnt portray anyone in a good light, it just shows them all in a negative light and the industries that are involved.

Theres some truth in that, afterall it is an entertainment show.......but they can only show you in a bad light if you stand in it....

No need to show each candidate in a bad light when people talk themselves out of the show, or lie on their CV which is *so* gonna get you caught or pretend to be a chicken.

I just hated the way the show portrayed the industry (bags etc) in such a shallow way that gives the impression that its incredibly easy to do. Yes it isnt rocket science or brain surgery but what jobs are (apart from rocket science or brain surgery)? These guys didnt run off a screen print to such a level without professional help, which wasnt shown.

What would have shown more business sense, if made for a lot more boring show, is once they had produced as much stock as they could, for them to split up as individuals or pairs, and each go off to a different market in London - this way they could have made a lot more money, and a lot more profit per worker, than the pittance they actually achieved!

I loved the screen printing - never seen it done like that before  but it was a laugh. Even better when they had to buy the knackered ones back that they'd sold to the shop earlier.

I really enjoy the program in general but its not in the real world as not all costs are factored in - Oh look we've got blah blah profit  - yeh right, I think they must have all graduated from the business school of ebay.

Its all profit I tell you - all profit!

It's an entertainment programme, and it allows us at home to say, 'why don't they do this', or 'they should be doing that'. How many of us were shouting at the girls in the zoo to split up and sell as individuals instead of being afraid to leave their competitors side in case she did better! Every episode makes the task assigned look easy in some way (and I'm sure every member of that week's business is shouting 'it's not THAT easy'.

I'm constantly amazed at the people who turn up on this programme. They seem to think that saying 'I'm a self starter' or 'I'm top of the food chain when it comes to sales' makes it so. The reality is often so different. I love the programme, but am frustrated at the end of each week because they show themselves to be shallow numpties who would stab their grandmothers for an extra £1 (in the most cases).

Alan Sugar makes me laugh, he conducts his businesses in a professional manner and he must be laughing off camera at the sycophantic people who come before him. Relax, it's an entertainment, enjoy.
