More than likely other influences creating these effects. Mottling, powdery residue, etc are often time and temp issues. It might be the coating on the case needs it slightly cooler etc as same with mugs, different manufacturers of cases will have different results and ways to print. 3D phonecases from different suppliers can make a big difference in the finished quality so it is about testing the options out there. I actually prefered the look of the matt cases to the glossy when starting out on this road but availability wasn't as good accross models.

Film is better but I had a problem printing black with film... Paper printed better black but I am upgrading my printer to see what happens.
The black would depend on your ink (the "lightness" of it when being transferred) and temperature (the higher the better, not high enough and you'll get brownish black).

Hi Paul, I wonder what press do you use? For the mini 3D press, I actually don't have any problem with the film. However, the temperature inside varies too much press-to-press and hence it gives too much color inconsistency.

However, there is also truth to your statement. The film needs to be dried to an extreme point. This may not be a problem if you're in a desert but for me, it means having a space where temperature is kept high and humidity low. Only then I get a sort of consistency from the film behavior. You can see this in Society6 video.

Which gets me thinking perhaps that's why some press models use actuators that push the case against the film as well as vacuum rather than vacuum only. I believe this also has something to do with more evenly distributed heating element.

No. Once time and temps are found for your set-up I wouldn't be expecting markings on the surface. You can achieve a crisp finish.

Could you please share your printing procedure

I had a play with one but didn't think it was worth the money. It looked good and small but too limiting for me only phone cases and thats such a cut throat market that I did not think it worth the expense.

Just been looking at the sunmeta website at the page for the new small & cheap film machine. One of the cases they display doesn't look like it's printed that well. The blue one, have a look at this screenshot from their site, the corner of the case looks pretty bad:

So if they did this case in that machine it's not very promising...

I heard that INV sublimation have a new 3d machine special for film phone case printing, the machine is infrared heating, they promise the printing quality good, once not good, they accept turn goods.
So how much is your machine INVSUB?
