I'm not sure I'd be as keen on this if it was a monthly payment that went on indefinitely. I'd rather it be a fixed payment up-front, and then pay an upgrade fee for any major improvements.

And I would only go for this if I could host it locally on my server. I don't agree with cross-server scripting/hosting for security reasons. There's also the issue of bandwidth - if everyone who buys this has to run it through the same server, it's likely to slow things down. Also, if one server goes down, everyone loses access to it. If you host it yourself, you can set up redundancies in the event of problems.

I would also want to be able to run it locally from my laptop so I can use it to demonstrate to clients even when I have no internet connection.

Hosting it remotely on someone else's server would be a deal-breaker for me.

In did sounds like a issue :( but i am afraid you want be able to run this offline Jonathan as this app is secured. It can be run only within assigned domain.

iam sorry guys but had to protect it some how before someone buy it and start reselling it with their webmaster services. This happened to templates i sell. There is a guy on ebay who design sublimation printing online stores and provided free psd templates!!! My template!

So pressiton 3d mug rotator will be protected to work within one domain. Hope this is mot huge problem.

When you say "within one domain", does that mean within your domain (frames4photoshop) or a single domain that the purchaser can nominate/register at the time of purchase?

I can make do without running it locally from my laptop, but I would want to be able to run it from my own server.

Maybe another idea would be to module the purchase. For example (prices are just off the top of my head!):

1 License for an outright purchase = £ 450 (includes up to 3 installations on owners PC or own hosting)

1 Monthly License = £15 (includes 20 online designs, if renewed the following month, unused designs quota do not roll-over).

Quarterly License = £40 (includes 75 online designs).

Semi-Annually License = £70 (includes 150 online designs).

Yearly License = £100 (includes unlimited online designs).

Obviously another form of coding would need to be added for PC installations that would check your server to see how many times that particular license has been installed.
For billing, you might want to take a look at BoxBilling, (http://www.boxbilling.com/) its a free billing service that can calculate what services have been sold, when they are due for renewal, inform customers automatically when new software updates are available and also offers several payment gateways, sends out automated mails to inform customers of expiry date. After saying that, its designed for hosting but Im sure I heard a friend say he tried it for digital downloads and it worked for him.

If you intend running it from your server, the billing software would automatically send out a reminder that the next payment is due, you can set the interval to say, first reminder 5 days before expiry, 1 day before expiry and then 3 days overdue, and after that, if they still havent paid, the software would cancel their subscription and deny access to the application.

If this was adapted it would stop the person like me that dont do many mugs a month from using it, would not be cost affective.
