Re: sublimation slates
Not had the paper sticking problem at all here, and we do a lot of slates.
We pre heat the slates face down at 200 degrees C for 60 seconds, and then wrap the transfers around them tightly and tape in place, and then press face down in the press for a further 8 minutes - this with up to 6 slates pressing at a time.
Our press has a soft top layer on the base platen, which is enough to absorb the face of the slate. We don't use any additional silicone sheets, and don't have any problems with the slates going matt in places.
The difference could also be that some transfer papers don't work so well at this heat for this length of time. We're using Coldenhove JetCol high speed papers.

Re: sublimation slates
Interesting will try that, I followed Pauls tutorial and have had good results the pic above is by far the worst one I have done, paul makes a point of saying some people do face down but he was against it, I will give it a try and update on my results. Thanks
Re: sublimation slates
I am in favor of printing face up as it ames quicker for heat to hit the printable surface and i had less fails. so this is personal preferation really...

Re: sublimation slates
Tried both ways now
Doing pauls way the pic was a lot clearer except for the blur (see my pic above)
Doing facedown, no blur, no paper stick but the glossy finish isnt as good
Will try adjusting heat again and and do face up
Any suggestion on min heat required, tried at 205 and 195 face up but have patches, 200 face down but lacks gloss

Re: sublimation slates
do 195C for bit shorter time. also make sure there is no huge pressure applied.

Re: sublimation slates
I printed my first about 4 months ago and the first one i was very happy with. The second though had a fade around 1" in from everyside, I then turned the press off and left them in the box. I now have around 30 slates of all sizes i want to test again with. Any ideas why there would be a faded "border"? Both were printed at the same time, just the first was with the press from cold?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: sublimation slates
I have found each time I do one it is better from cold, a second one has issues. Could be my press or just unlucky on the 2nd,3rd etc when press is already heated
Re: sublimation slates
What issues would you get with your 2nd?
