We were going to go with the Traineeship Scheme and Apprenticehip scheme, but the guy we found and liked, had been messed around by too many companies abusingf these scheme for free labour that we wanted to offer him something better - he was due to go on a placement at Savers supermarket where he would again be free labour to get "retail experience" (stacking shelves) so we offered him something more interesting, and actual money, so he came and worked for us instead!

Yeah, it is a leap of faith - we know we have enough orders on the books at the moment, and hope we can maintain the cost of him through the end of the year at least. As far as a competitor, not really, as for us 'the product' is the design and the brand we have built up, not so much that we can print all sorts of things - there's a couple of personalised print shops in town, so maybe we're training up an employee who could work for them one day, or set up in competition with them, but it's not what we do, so not worried about that.
