We've given up doing it all ourselves - we want to do everything ourselves, but there just isn't the time to do it all, so our website is always unfinished - it always got pushed to the end of the to-do list, as making the products to send out on orders is what made us the money, and that's what was paying the bills. We knew that having a professional website would do wonders for our retail and wholesale sale, as well as PR/perception of our brand as a whole, so we've decided this is something to outsource - we can then concentrate on developing, designing and making products, and leave running the website side of things to experts. At the moment, this does mean we are working extra hard getting all the info sent over to the web company, and taking lots of new photographs to fill the new site) so all those jobs at the end of the to-do list have finally come to the top, but the end is in site!
If you have spare time then make your own website, but after trying to do ours ourselves for a long time, we've finally realised that we had to give up and admit, we don't have the time to do everything! We're basically working on the premise that time=money, and our time is finite and necessary to spend on making and shipping product.
What is also telling is that the majority of our sales are wholesale, and very few of our orders come from online. We're expecting an increase in both retail and wholesale orders through the investment of a proper website though!

Hi there,
I would recommend using Opencart, I have built a website for a pen printer friend of mine. The software is free, but then had to purchase extensions in order for it to work the way they wanted.
