Cheers James, i suppose its hit or miss with all suppliers really, even the best suppliers probably have they fair share of bad batches

Like wise with CG mugs, they were fine. Cheap as well.

I actually think the mugs that come with the deals are not exactly the same mugs they sell normally.You can feel the outside and the finish is not smooth on some of them.I have bought others and they have seemed ok,but i do think the coating makes a lot of difference to the colour.
I have just tried a durham glaze mug with cg mug and orca mug,same image and the durham mug is more vibrant in the finished colour.I have also tried again same image on several different china mugs,different sizes and the durham 10oz and 6oz for me look the best colours.
Before you say the image is a professional drawn image and the printer has just had a correct colour profile from Paul,which makes it very very good on the colours.But as always we all have our own opinion,this is only mine

This is where profiling gets tricky, as really the profile needs to be made specific to the thing you are printing to - as you have noticed the colours as different on different mugs, and in theory an ICC created for the mug you wanted to use would bring up the colours to be what they should be, but being a curved surface it is not going to be easy (impossible?) to get a good colour measurement from a mug. Flat surfaces are obviously fine. Your profile was most likely made using some white coated aluminium, so the mugs with a similar glossyness and whiteness to the aluminium will look the best.

It is possible that CG got a bad batch of mugs in, and instead of selling them, or just dumping them, they are giving them away for 'free' although this doesn't make doog business sense if they aren't really good enough. We bought 10 boxes of their cheap 10oz mugs in December, and the quality was fine - my only gripe was that there was a lot of overspray at the top of the mug, going around and into the top inside surface, which meant for our full bleed printing top to bottom, the image gassed into the mug, which didn't look too great, we don't have this problem with our usual mugs. If you're not printing full bleed mugs, then you should be fine.

Edit to add - these mugs still sold fine for us at our normal retail price, so the customers didn't mind as much as I did!
