Slightly off piste, but your last comment reminded me of something..
When I was a Welder/Plater we all had kind of a 'Bay' which was just a space in between Two of the buildings stanchions, we each had Two BIG beams on which our jobs would sit - kind of like the whole factory was segregated and each of us 'Workers' had our own space.
I was only 17 then I think, anyway - I NEVER liked the early mornings but had already been put onto 'Mans' wages as I passed a few exams.. this was a great time for me money wise.
So, to the point about having food cooking whilst working.
.. at that age I used to like Radio 1 - the others all had Radio 2 on, can you imagine ! I am now a Radio 2 listener. so, my (obviously bigger) radio would cause problems.. but thats another story.
I didn't like it as I said, clocking in and out - it was not the life I wanted (and quickly moved into the entertainment industry) so I made it as comfortable as possible for myself in my 'Work Area'.
I had:
Microwave.
TV.
Radio (stack System)
Breville - this is the point of my post..
Vacuum cleaner.
Decking.
Wardrobe
Hair Dryer (I had Hair then).
The 'Men' used to call me various things for wanting to be comfortable - you can imagine, they were mostly all over 50 and were of the generation that didn't tolerate this kind of thing (I learned a lot from them, many great men were there).. so..
10 mins before each break I would put my ready made sandwich into my Brevile sandwich toaster - the amount of them who hovered around at break time was crazy, it was the Onions that did it they said..
Quite soon, actually after Christmas I noticed a couple of new Sandwich Toasters make their way into the place - by the end of Jan most of them had One.
I remember vividly Two things about that job:
First was when I was Arc Welding outside in torrential rain - I touched the wrong combination of things and got a hell of a Pisser.
Second: I was taking a really long, heavy Beam off of a Trailer - I was on a forklift, (I was 'over confident' in those days) - and ended up in a fine balancing act.. I am still here to tell the tale though
So, the morale of the story is: Don't be silly - and eat more
