Following your advice last week about Kodak, I was on the verge of buying a Kodak ESP when a "as new" Epson D120 came up on fleabay. I made a "Buy It Now" offer and now have it hereworking away.daviddeer;74924 wrote:Hi sorry been busy. I originally purchased an esp c110 multifunction printer which is still going strong. Then I bought an esp 3.2 from amazon. Although Kodak aren't making printers at the moment the inks will be available for abut 4 more years. They printer is slowww but the photo quality is very good. the top of the range for the home market was the hero 9.1 but it's hard to justify paying over £100 for a printer that isn't made any more.
The only way round the problem would be a ciss/refillable system for an existing printer and bulk ink but they have troubles of their own. I am presently using refillable cartridges for my brother sublimation setup and have had none of the problems I had with ciss on the Epson 1400 which I am now dumping as the paper feed has gone west (gosh I miss my 1290). To be honest I did find that compatibles for all my Epson printers from the 760 through to the 1400 all had a distinct magenta shift. So where possible I switched back to genuine for photographic print. So I can see where you're coming from. I have been using Epsons since 1989 and have a lot of experience with them but over the last few years, because of the high ink usage and cost, I have explored many other avenues such as HP and canon. So I now use the brother 5890cn for sublimation up to A3, the Oki c830 laser for t-shirts, the zebra stripe s600 for labeling, the Kodak for photos and the Epson 9800 for fine art Giclée printing amongst other things. But if you buy a cheap Kodak and give it a whirl it will only have cost you £50 including the ink. amazon have an esp c110 for £20 so perhaps you could give it a try.
Also here is a list of many wide format pigment ink printers if your pocket is that deep.
One good thing about bit is that I can now use the surplus durabrite inks that I have had since I purchased the same model printer for Sub. printing.
Thanks to everyone for your help.
