My manual one the tape always seems to fall off the teeth, then trying to sort it with one hand it starts to spin round lol.

So for me this is ideal haha

Why's that Paul? If you set it on auto it feeds the next piece ready for use as soon as you take one out :-)

This is the cheaper one on eBay, the video also shows it with thin heat tape and it seems to handle it ok.

Over engineered rubbish

Americans have had these for a while, and I just do not see the point, cheap or otherwise. I can not see how it would benefit anyone unless you were on a production line and the dispenser had an automatic function.

Look at your two reasons for purchasing...

Speed up the production, I agree you will probably save about 1.5 seconds per item. So if you were doing 100 items per hour then you save yourself just under 3 minutes. Whoop whoop.

Save money. Assuming you would save a maximum of 5mm per cut and assuming there are 33 meters on a roll and you set the machine to 15mm. The automatic would give you 220 cuts, using a standard dispenser you get 165 cuts. So you would get an extra 55 pieces. Taking the price of heat tape as £5.00 (I know it is considerably cheaper) this means you save 55p per roll meaning you would need to purchase 136 rolls to make your money back excluding electricity or batteries.

If you need to save 1p per item (which is roughly what it works out at) then I would suggest you could not afford the dispenser

As you can see, I am on the fence with this one

If you purchase one I am gonna start complaining about the cost of the subscription to this forum as you obviously have way too much money  (and now I am going to sit back and see how long this thread takes to go off topic ).

Mossy...

I always found this so I taped masking tape around the spindle until it made a better fit for the tape I use.

Another aspect of a gadget like this' worth is, although it may not save much/any significant time or money, does it actually make the job easier or more enjoyable - does it take some of the faff away from using a manual dispenser with the tape coming off the teeth and the roll spinning away as mentioned. I would think possibly, but it probably throws up its own set of problems, which may take more time to sort out than with a normal dispenser.
