Solid state drive, latest hard drive option, no moving parts, no noise, no heat, smaller unit. Massive increase in read/write if you get the right one. Windows boots in seconds

. Use a larger hard drive for storage.

with some of the rest here - build your own with windows 7 64bit - smooth, no fuss - it just works - same as XP did many moons ago.
if you want some hair pulling moments, and there will be a lot of them, get windows 8 - we got it on out new lappy, nightmare - HATE IT - so much so, after warranty is up, its getting formatted and W7 ultimate fired on

Going for the one i put up earlier a windows 7, and the nice man is putting in multi card reader and going to transfer over what files he can from the old one to the new one.
Now just got to put up with this lappy for a few more days, (which is now looking like a octopus with cables comming out of everywhere.)
Then the grandson can go back to play on cbeebies with it before i throw it out of the window.

One thing I always avoid is On board Graphics, much better to have separate card.

Alway agree with that Sharon....that said, the budget one I just built was an AMD cpu with onboard graphics and does run well...it won't be used for anything at all taxing.
