I had a similar thing a couple of years ago & I rang them. They took a few details off me & then called me back & unfroze my account straight away. They then made 2 small transactions on my bank account & asked me to tell them what they were the next time I logged into Paypal. I've never had a problem since & I also have to say the person who dealt with me was really nice & very helpful.

I had a large single item sale last year and that froze the account.
I verfied the account again and the block was lifted fairly quickley.
Luckley it was close to the time that my Visa statment came in and took about a week to verify.
If it more that seven day Visa can / will give you a verification code which release the frozen Account.
It can be caused by turnover and or large single transaction. in Ireland over €10,000 of transactions cause money Laundering Questions, which have to be reported to Revenue.

I called them yesterday to find out more and they just said it was with compliance and hopefully should be sorted within the next 48 hours. I also took to Twitter to complain and they are looking into it as well. They don't rush themselves.
I'm going to look in to alternative payment gateways in the new year.

Well Paypal is not a cheap merchant service provider if you do a number of transactions. There are many others offering services that might be more competitive. As a COSTCO card holder I know that they offer a good deal through Elavon if my business levels justified using a different merchant service than Paypal.
I hope that your issues are swiftly sorted and that things go back to normal soon.

elavon are ok, and their charges via booker/costco are reasonable, but most people like to pay via paypal, and of course if you do not have a merchant account to take card payments on a website, you are limited to what you can take

I once looked into other merchant account suppliers rather than using paypal. I even signed up with RBS which is my bank for a merchant account called streamline i think it was called.
I soon realised that it was cheaper using paypal rather than a monthly charge plus a transaction charge. Also noticed that my website sales went down when i removed paypal.
The problem is paypal have a massive hold on the market when it comes to payment gateways on the web and having paypal as a payment option is a good selling point. These days people dont want to give out there card details however paying with paypal requires no card details hence the customer feels more secure. Unless they dont have a paypal account of course.

We get these emails all the time! They usually request that we click a link contained in the email and login on the web page displayed - YEAH RIGHT!!
If you login to paypal from the Paypal website, do you still receive the warning? If it is legit as it once was for our account, it took a day or two to sort out.

Yes it was from PayPal themselves. The information was highlighted once you logged in.
I ended up sorting the issue via Twitter. They don't like you complaining for all to see.
