I have SX235W SX435W and an old D3800 All reset using a paper clip. i do believe I read some where that there is a small battery fitted behind the chip. but after years of resetting the D3800 still resets every time.

Sounds stupid but do you think it has to be a paper clip? I am currently using a bent in half staple. Surely these are the same kind of material? I guess the chips just don't work?

I use what ever is to hand metalic but you do need to put firm pressure to make the contact.

It may be a case of having to break through the surface to short the pins. If there is any surface contamination then a good contact wont be made.

How do you mean, break through the surface. I/m guessing you dont mean scratch the contacts a little?
Thanks

i have used the cartridges for ages now - i dont remove them to refil them, i just take out the bung and refil (also stops you getting airlocks and bubbles) on the odd occasion they do not re-set then i take them out and just wipe over them with paper towel or similar, pop them back in and hey presto they work, i would not be messing around with paperclips.
taken from a website selling the same ones:The chips on the cartridges are automatically reset when installing the cartridges, inklevel State than 100% and will according to the consumption drop.. You do not even have to do anything. So you definitely do NOT need a chipresetter. You can refill the cartridges and reset repeatedly. It is recommended to use the whole set

stop taking them out would be my first advice - if they are now full, make sure they really click into place, not just go in, then let the printer re-set, if it says "ink not recognised" just click ok, then do a nozzle print out, you may find the warning you are reading, is that they are not recognised inks rather than they are not working, i cant remember the exact wording, but it can look confusing, as if its not accepting the carts, when it is, its just warning you that you are using non reg carts
