Well you really have a couple of choices around this mark. You have the X-rite Colormunki Photo and the Colorvision Spyder Print. Both of these do ICC profiles for printouts.

colourMunki will be your best shot. accurate enough but you will be doing loads of profile updates... which is good tho

Very few people are likely to have more than one profiling device, so that question is only ever going to get the answer "I've got this one, so I think it's the best".
I'd suspect that all the ones around £300 will produce similar results, it just comes down to how easy they are to use and you'll discover that by reading reviews. £300 is "entry level" price when it comes to printer profilers.
I use the ColorMunki myself. If money was no object, I'd buy whatever Paul's got, but the ColorMunki does a good job.

Well I am waiting for a Colorvision Spyder 3 print to arrive. I bought it new boxed off eBay for what I consider not a lot. Once I have tried it out I will let you know. I can almost see us having to have a 3 way test soon lol.

I will have to do a bit more research then but good to get direct opinions on here. Just had a swine of a print job and struggled on a gradient. Got about 20 mugs waste and still not happy with the result.

I've got a Spyder system, which has two devices, one for printer profiling, and one for monitor profiling. From what I remember it does more colour swatches for printer profiling than the Munki, but not quite as many as Paul's system, but not far off.

Struggling with a yellow into greenish colour. Not sure why but there is a big step in it. I would have hot a profile for this design as it was important but also urgent.
